The Prickly Times:The Prodigal Son

THE RETURN OF THE LILLI

There is new of a triumphant return of prodigal son and prodigious talent Lilli Cherrad to the club after a stint in the Turkish sixth division. For reasons that are still unclear, the club decided to let him go for next to nothing; a really insulting gesture considering the talent the former youth trainee possesses and the sort of form he is currently in.

Interviewing him he only had these few but very resounding words to burp

'' Am back... I told you I'll be back''

On that bombshell, we hope to see the best of this player who by all accounts has had too much Turkish delight .

PRICKLY TIMES : DISASTER INCORPORATED

SAME 'DOODOO' DIFFERENT DAY

With two disappointing matches in the bag for the start of the season, the players are not living to the sort of pre-season hype that was being floated in the press. With the sale of star Chinese forward its not hard to see why.

Interestingly enough the club's top scorer after two rounds is none other than Willy Workman. The manager's new tactic of playing the club's legend upfront this season proves the fact that we lack a depth in attacking talent that might end up hurting the club's lofty ambitions of promotion to the Top Series , this season. So far though he has proven to be ever reliable player that in season past proved to be merciless in front of goal.

PRICKLY TIMES : WONDERCHINAMAN

CHINESE GOAL MACHINE

A tough season is finally at an end. Sadly though the club fails to gain promotion to the Top Series of Mz Country. With team like Belding and Homegrown around its easy to see why. A perfect blend of solid defense and an even more solid attack is what has proved to be the key to these teams' success.

One positive that has again come out of the season is the crowning of Chinese superstar(46072853) as goal king \^^/ for the second successive season. With a contribution of 60 goals, the club owes its current league positive due to the heroics of this talent footballer.

A
t a the end of season's Cactus Awards , (46072853) was rewarded with a trophy for all his accomplishments .Other players that took home a CA were (54403341) who netted 22 goals for the season and veterans Elias Stockton and Alvin Mckinney who marshaled the midfield for the entirety of the campaign whiles remaining injury free and in superb form.

Lessons have been learned over the course of the season and hopefully with the help of the talents the club has upfront she is going to mount a more potent title challenge and subsequently promotion into the Top Series.

PRICKLY TIMES: Oriental stampede

A Real Awakening

The b-team got really thrashed in a friendly against Fc Real from India. With complete domination of the game the Indians walloped a very youthful Cactus fc side 1-8.

Belgium veteran Eddy Vollens was a complete nightmare for the defense and netted 4 unstoppable goals on the night with his striking partner, youth trainee Doug Summers bagging a hat trick of equally splendid goals.

To cap off a wonderfully woeful night the midfield was also dominated by the unstoppable Brendan Rocastle whose pinpoint passes undid the amateurish b-team defence. Not fazed by the daunting challenge of playing this high class team the only outstanding player was Yazid Medjiba who could have landed a couple of the midfielders in the hospital with a number of full blooded challenges.

One positive lesson for the youth team will be that of experience and with that and a lot of training they will become the best players around.

PRICKLY TIMES : National Call Ups

The 'twin' Rocks of Gibraltar

The club would like to congratulate (26) Kristopher Henley and (3) Emmanuel Benoit for their respective national team call ups. All the hard work has finally paid off guys.

THE INTERVIEW

PT: I would like to personally congratulate you both on your national team callups, we here at the club know the sort of hard working players you are and really all we can say is, its about time. How do you feel

Kris: Shocked! I woke up this morning and got the call from my manager saying that i had made the Mz National Team. I nearly chocked on my early morning saliva. My wife had to slap me out of my stupor before i could really celebrate .

PT: your wife slapped you?
Kris: yeah. right across the cheek; 'full plate ' as they call it'. Have a look

(Emmanuel couldnt hold back his laughter and was holding his belly from laughing too hard.)

PT: how are you going to prepare for the upcoming friendly against Kuwait, that is if you get picked ahead of other squad members?

kris: Train, train and train. That is what has got me into the squad so that is whats going to keep me in there. I am relishing the opportunity and cant wait to break some arab legs.Just kidding.
(smiles nervously)

PT: what about you Emmanuel? how did you feel getting back into the squad? any spousal bruises youd want to show us?

Emmanuel: Haha. None. HAHA. I feel great getting back into the squad especiall now that i will be going back in with a dear friend of mine. I have been playing with Kris for this season and we have a very good understanding of our varied styles of defending; he is good all round and so i have to admit he is slightly better than me but that will be our strength not weekness.

PT: Well Thank you both for your time and candor and we at the Times wish you all the best of luck.

ONALASKA Vs CACTUS UNITED FC: The story so far....

THE GREAT ONE

Its been a quite a while since the club tasted the sweet smell of victory against her arch nemesis Onalaska. From narrow losses to complete thrashing the club has suffered its fare share of defeats from the Great one. Atop of the Mz country Top Series for the second time around with Cortland in third place.

The secret to the club's success is undoubtably its mass investment in the youth academy and Youth training camps. Proof of this is the cluster of talent that has spewed out of the guts of the training programs at the club. Alex Hannah, and Blake Denton are a few that come to mind.

That said, shrewd and patient investments have also proved key in the club's success.

The club hopes to emulate such great achievement by getting its act together so as to put the memory of long defeats to Onaslaka to bed.

PRICKLY TIMES: The Season So Far...

RESTRUCTURING THE PRICKLY ONES

After much chopping and changing, the manager seems to have finally settled on a solid quartet ( depending on the tactic used of course ) in defense.

Last season was a forgettable one. After relegation, the club got rid of many players who couldn't cope with life in the first division. A season later the manager seems to have his acts together and gotten a team thats worth challenging for another div2 title and then may be this time last more than one season in div1.

The main factor thats responsible for the club's fortune is its water tight defense that has let in the least number of goals on the league this season. Well whether that in itself is enough for promotion is another thing altogether.

Willy is back in form and is now a regular fixture in the first eleven at the club. From all accounts , he intends to stay in the first team as well, repaying the manager's faith in him with 17 goals so far in the season. At 23, he is now coming to realize his true potential as a superior midfielder and utility player.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

' Some people don't like being called utility players since there is a common misconception that being a utility player means that you are not good enough to play anyway on the field to make it your own. I disagree, i see myself as someone who can play most positions with relative ease .I started my career here as a striker, now am a midfielder . Does that mean that i wasn't good enough to play there and so was pushed into midfield? NO . Besides , I've played upfront this season a couple of times and have chipped in with a number of goals.'

[---Willy workman (14)---]

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The youth Academy was also re-opened. The rumours around the club have it that the kind of players the manager needs have not been made available to him, since other clubs cant find replacements on the local market.

PRICKLY TIMES : CHAMPIONS \^^^/ !!

FOURTH CONSECUTIVE TROPHY !
------------------------------------

At the end of what has been a very gruelling season, the club has seen all the hard work put in by the players and management pay off.Champions for the fourth consecutive season, a feet that going to be hard match for some time to come by any club.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'It was a tight finish at the end.We had stiff competition from Southhampton and Terrytown, but it was due to the brilliance of Swedish forward Ronny thiden who netted an unprecedented 108 goals in a season, in div2 in MZ country. He has proved to be the shrudest signing ive made so far ; without him this season would have been very different. Now we look forward to life in div1 and hopefully maitain the momentum that brought us here.A fifth title would be a bonus; more than anything i would have asked for.Am not thinking about that at the moment.Top three is our aim this season so we can push for promotion through the playoffs.'

----------------- Manager, CACTUS UNITED FC------------------------

From humble beginings , the club has grown into a force to reckon with in the MZ counrty.Mostly due to the controvercial manager who through smarts and luck has seen the club reach its current status. It remains to see if the manager goes on to keep the old squad for the upcoming campaign or will he bring another wonderkid to push for promotion.
